Help needed: I cannot boot into my newly installed minimal Arch system...
Hi, Recently I have bought a laptop with the UEFI option in the BIOS being supported. I too want UEFI when it is available. I have created a GPT partiion table successfully, and now I have apparently been successful in installing Arch as well. The only problem is the two options of a bootloader are GRUB and SYSLINUX are not what i need as I need GRUB 2 actually as its made for a UEFI and GPT system. So I am stuck right now running Knoppix live but if anyone can assist me on perhaps installing GRUB 2 now, even before doing any updates to Arch as expected. Or, I know a bootable floppy can be made for SYSLINUX but the details I am not sure of... Any ideas? In the meantime I am going to try and install Knoppix into one of the logical partitions and see if it will assist in a bootloader..or I may try LILO...

Ok, Knoppix uses legacy grub and you need Grub 2. There are ways to obtain grub but the easiest is to get it as an iso download here, or here. Burn the downloaded image into a cd media. Boot the burned CD and repair or install Grub 2. If you need help or tutorial for Grub 2 visit here.
Hope it helps.
Good luck.

Thanks a lot. That was basically the idea I was sorting through. So I bootted from Lubuntu actually on my Live Cd and got everything: all GRUB, GRUB2, LILO and Efi for syslinux download the created a new iso of Lubutu and am installing to my USB Flash now. I have 2 USB disks, one 4 GB the other 16 Gb and just to have Im going to install Knoppix to the USB then will correct the bootloader issue. Also ty for the GRUB2 iso idea... I did not know it was even possible! A nd its super awesome Arch does support a GPT partition and a UEFI.
This will.be worked out shortly. Now another tech question but where here in this thread do I mark this "solved"?
