Those who want to know what's Arch Linux without installing on Hard Drive, try AL-AMLUG Live CD. It also includes HD installer if interested to copy CD to HD with same configure (x-windows and sound) run on CD thereby having a pre-installed Arch Linux with KDE when re-booting the system (HD).
AL-AMLUG Live CD version 0.2.1 is upload.
New update (ver. 0.2.1) 17-August-2003:
1. Improved hd-installer
2. Reiserfs support
3. Fixed few kernel config bugs
Other features:
1. HD Installer - copy CD to Hard Drive
2. MD Installer - configure Winmodem and HSP modems
3. Pre-installed printer drivers for CUPS.
4. Boot option for manual or auto x-window, sound and KDM start up.
5. HWD-1.0 - hardware detect for Arch Linux (devfs).
hwd project page: http://amlug.org/new-projects/hwd/hwd.html
6. AMLUG Toolkit
AL-AMLUG Live CD download page was down for a while because of lack of bandwidth to handle the unexpected big number of downloads. The Live CD tarball is now uploaded on Arch Linux ftp and Ibiblio ftp.
This is one of the live-cd´s i had downloaded some time ago when i had more spare time. Regretably, i never got to actually using it till last week, and totally surprised. It is indeed the fastest live cd out there (at least in my box) and everything went smoothly, from start to end.
Yet, i found that there is no ssh package on it....
Is this possible, or is there maybe something wrong with my iso and some other stuff may be missing too??
If it is intentional, why?
I will check now on the amlug page to see wether the package list has openssh on it (should´ve done that before posting.... , i simply forgot..). Arch 0.5 certainly has it on theirs.

There is nothing wrong or anything intentional but I didn't include ssh trying to keep the iso small as possible. In version 0.3 it will be included. Are there anything else you feel to add?
uh..not for the moment. I don't see any other important stuff missing...
I will try it a bit longer and let you know in case i happen to find anything else that might be interesting to add.
Anybody else having trouble with this ???.
Standard boot appears to cause X to get all bitter and twisted.
Get a constant flickering between the menu with the userids listed, and a blank screen.
No error messages - well none I could see anyway.
Tried manual start-up - hardware probe looked o.k., and xsetup looked o.k.
kdm gets a command not found, so tried startx.
It died complaining about screen mismatch - vertical height from my recollection.
XF86Config has a generic Trident entry.
Box is a Toshiba SatPro 4600 with a Trident CyberbladeXP video card - 16 Meg dedicated.
The md5 checks out o.k.
Knoppix came up fine, and also recognised my Cisco Wireless card, which this did not.
None of my desktops will boot from CD, so can't check elsewhere until I get back into the office.
Originally posted by rasat The hwd cannot recognize your monitor. Did you try the new 0.4? In this version the hardware detect is upgraded.
Cheers Markku, it *IS* the 0.4.
Downloaded just the other day - the reason I tried it was it was supposedly using the Knoppix hardware scripts.
Knoppix was good as a "live", and I'm looking for a less bloated Distro.
Arch, which I've never tried, was a definite option so I thought I'd have a look at the AM offering to see if I liked it (i.e. Arch).
This card caused all sorts of grief with XFree when I first tried Linux - maybe it's still iffy.
If I can provide any doco (instructions please) just let me know.
