Question Latest kernel version for 21.3

What is the latest version of mx-21.3 kernel ? I am currently running 5.10.0-25-amd64 and find it strange that a 32 bit machine running debian has 6.1.38-1. My mx machine shows no later version.

MX-21 is based on Debian 11 (Bullseye). As you can see here, 5.10 is indeed the latest kernel for that version of Debian. MX-23 is based on Debian 12 (Bookworm) and should have a 6.x kernel.

That said, MX sometimes has newer kernel packages in their own repos. Currrently, the latest kernel available for MX-21 seems to be 5.13.

Since Mx21 is based on Debian it should have the latest kernel 6 since a 32 bit operating system is running that kernel and a more modern workstation is not runnng the version 6 kernel. T

No, it should not.

As Shruggy already stated, MX 21 is based on Debian 11, and Debian 11 does not use Linux 6.x kernels.

Debian 12 uses Linux 6.1 kernels, but even that is deliberately not the latest.

32-bit vs 64-bit is entirely irrelevant, as is the age of the hardware.

Unless you upgrade to MX 23, or to the AHS version of MX 21, you will remain on a Linux 5.10 kernel.

And I should add to that point: this is perfectly ok.

There is no need to use a newer kernel, unless you have a specific need for something that only the newer kernel provides.

Linux 5.10.x still receives fixes and security updates and will continue to do so for the next three years (projected EOL for 5.10 is Dec 2026).
