image can be dragged but not pasted

I copied the invisible thumbnails directory to a visible one since it has some cool thumbnails. Then I tried to copy and paste into Pinta but they won't paste. Yet, if I drag them into the Pinta icon on the sidebar they do paste. What's the difference? These are regular png files. I even made sure I was the owner but they still won't paste.

I've seen this problem before where something won't copy/paste but will drag. What is the difference?

Some more info would help.

What distro/version are you using and what desktop environment?

The Pinta icon is in the sidebar of what?

When you go to paste, are you using "right click-->pop up dialog" or "CTRL-v: or a menu item, such as "edit-->paste?

You could try starting pinta from the command line, then dragging/pasting some objects into it. Perhaps some useful information will output to the terminal.
