How do I make an installed program show up in the Launcher?

I installed sage from synaptic but it doesn't show up in the mx launcher. It does run from the terminal. How do I make a program that's installed show up in the launcher?

look in /usr/share/applications for the desktop file and if there open it and see what category is is for, if not create one for it.
