EVGA CLC-120 and AMD RX-480 Cooling

Have purchased a new M.2-2280 SSD to install MX-Linux on and move it out of a VM. Question: What is the current state of AMD RX-480 drivers? Usable? Video tearing still a pervasive problem with Linux? And then what about cooling fan speed control of the RX?

And related to it, I am on a AMD Threadripper 1950x, with an EVGA CLC-120 liquid cooloer. What will the pump and fan speeds do when booting linux? Can I control them? Will they default to low speed (bad) or high speed (good)?

I would appreciate any insights you can provide.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Dave

Very specific hardware questions! Knowing nothing about the topic, I started by Googling "liquid cooler linux" and it looks like there might be some help there if you haven't looked yet.

I'm not sure what will happen to your cooling system, but you will need a later kernel (available in our repo) for the sensors to display properly. 4.17 likely, maybe 4.16. you can install one of those kernels from our test repo right on the live-USB with persistence (there is a antiX video on my channel about changing kernels on the live-usb and the same procedure works with MX) and then a live boot with the new kernel will likely tell you how its going to work. no need to install first.
