Quite impressed by 4MLinux 18.0
Hello everyone, I'm a newcomer to LQ and this is my first post in the forums. I've tried several previous versions of 4M in the past, but 18.0 is the first one I've succeeded in connecting to wifi and thus been able to use properly. I'm running it on a Dell Vostro laptop in a triple boot arrangement alongside Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17.3. The gaming aspect of this distro is a very attractive feature for me, and I've spent much of my spare time over the last four weeks playing the excellent 'Freedoom' games (currently on level 29 of Phase 2, in the second hardest mode). One thing that puzzles me is that I seem to remember trying out a version of the old 'Wolfenstein 3D' game when I first tried out this distro, but now I can't see it anywhere, either in the 'Mystery' menus or in any other menu. Can anyone help with that one? Also, I'd ideally have liked to install 4M 18.0 onto an external hard drive, but that couldn't be done. Any prospect that may be possible in a future version? Finally, I'm very impressed by the speed and reliability of the distro when running the internet on Chromium, Firefox and Opera.
I fully agree with you that 4MLinux is a great distro
I cannot promise anything as for making it possible to install 4MLinux to an external hard disk drive. I am a bit busy with implementing some other features (UEFI support in 4MLinux 20, SAMBA support in 4MLinux 21).
However I can do one thing for you (and me :-) - Wolfenstein 3D will be added back in 4MLinux 20.0 Stable (to be released on the 1st of November). I am glad that someone else likes these old school games.

Thanks for the speedy and informative reply zk, you're doing a brilliant job with 4MLinux, which is a much-improved distro over the past year or two. I did initially put a small (20GB) hard drive into my laptop, on which I installed 4M as the sole OS, then removed it, enclosed it, and tried to boot it externally via usb, but not entirely surprisingly this didn't work. Also it's a real pain changing a hard drive on a Dell Vostro, as it's one of those laptops which need to be semi-dismantled in order to do this.....
