4mLinux 23 and wifi

Hello There,

First let me tell you I'm a fan op supersmall distros and 4mLinux is really 'fast and furious'. Mostly I use Puppy by the way but I use 4mLinux mostly for running a server and programming in php, drupal etc. I work as a programmer for a charity-organisation that provides clothing for the extremely poor (yes, also in rich Holland...) and my aim is to help them to keep their old computers alive, and 4mLinux can do that trick beautifully.

Now I have been using 4mLinux for a while but the only thing that doesn't work is communication with the Wifi card in my (really old) Laptop. It's not the wifi-driver I think because the wifi-led on my keyboard is not switched on after 4mLinux has started. When i try to connect to the internet I get the message 'no such device' so somehow 4mLinux does not 'see' my wifi card.
I also use Puppy and there everything works fine, so it's not the hardware. It's really annoying because I have to use 4mLinux with a cable every time I want to download stuff from the Internet. And I really want to use it because I love 4mLinux! As a programmer with two small children I'm always on the move and I can work everywhere (I write this post in an indoor playground where my kids can play and I can work on my websites), and it would help me a lot if the Wifi is working with 4mLinux.

Ik have a Broadcom wifi card in my Laptop. Info:
DESCRIPTION: Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN VENDOR: 14e4 DEVICE: 4311.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Hi again,

You may need additional firmware (addon_firmware-2017.10.13.tar.xz). It's available on the 4MLinux installation CD and online:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/lin.../23.0/drivers/

Alternatively, the "wl" driver should support your card. It's also available on the 4MLinux installation CD and online:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/lin...vers/broadcom/

Note: the link above is for the latest version of 4MLinux (23.1). If you have 4MLinux 23.0, then you must use its installation CD.

Well, that worked!

First installed the additional firmaware, then the driver en my wifi led turned blue for the first time! So that works fine now.

Thanks

Hi,

If the "wl" driver works for you, then you don't need additional firmware (which may be important for saving space on older PCs). The "wl" driver is always included in the 4MLinux installation CD.
