Installing FreeBSD 5.3 on ASUS A7N8X Dlx (Sil 3112A)

Hi,

I have been unsucsessfully trying to install the stable 5.3 build on my system.

The system is as follows:

AXP 2500+
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe (Sil3112a sata controller)
2 x 512MB PC3200 RAM
WD Raptor 74GB
WD Raptor 36GB
WD 80GB
ATI Radeon 8500LE

Booting up installation CD #1, the installation simply hangs after detecting the hard drives (The drives on the SATA controller were detected).
I have tried selecting the ACPI disabled option to no avail.

I have been reading around, and know the Sil3112 is one to avoid, however I have seen some successful attempts installing Freebsd with this chip.

Could someone please point me in the right direction? I am lost.

Thank you.

Is this FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE or 5.3-STABLE?

Did you ever get this resolved?

This link has success stories of you controller and STABLE > http://docs.freebsd.org/mail/archive...questions.html (Re: sil3112a SATA Controller, current status)

Try the 5.4 beta, or a current snap. Device drivers are one of the things that change the most between releases (as far as stability goes (usually )).
