FuguIta is an OpenBSD live CD featuring portable workplace, low hardware requirements, additional software. This live CD is intended to be as close as possible to the default OpenBSD when installed on a hard disk.

Interesting. I'll be curious to hear if anyone has given this variation a spin.

I have the 5.6 version, & agree it is very much like an installed system, albeit a commandline version.

Edit: Just add what you want.

Fuguita 7.3

Bump

Works really well. Loads/runs OpenBSD in ram so is very operationally quick as a desktop system.

Boot, set it up, save, and thereafter you can reboot that 'new (configured)' system each time, just save your data/files to HDD or another USB device.

I like to keep a copy around; & I have an installation of OpenBSD on a thin client too.

P.S. FuguIta loads to FVWM window manager, (but this can be changed).

I prefer cwm
I set up 'user' using
Code:
adduser
pressing enter to accept the initial defaults, and then

Code:
echo cwm >/home/user/.cwmrc
and a larger font for cwm ... in /home/user/.cwmrc

Code:
fontname "News10:size=13:antialias=true"
and a larger general desktop font ... in /home/user/.Xefaults

Code:
Xft.dpi: 144
I prefer not to have the cpu running at 100% all of the time when on mains power so ...

Code:
pkg_add obsdfreqd
rcctl enable obsdfreqd
rcctl stop apmd
rcctl disable apmd
rcctl start obsdfreqd
Set my timezone to UK

Code:
ln -fs /usr/share/zoneinfo/GB-Eire /etc/localtime
Chrome can have the menu fonts increased by scaling them i.e. launch chrome with
chrome --force-device-scale-factor=1.6
(I add that to the /usr/local/bin/chrome script (inserting it into the last line so it looks like)
Code:
LANG=${_l} exec "/usr/local/chrome/chrome" "--force-device-scale-factor=1.6 " ${_NOWASM} "${@}"
Within chrome I set the default search engine to duckduckgo as that way when you search for videos duckduckgo provide a option to 'view here' that side steps all the ads

To further reduce ads I replace /etc/hosts with Steven Blacks version from https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts

and that's mine pretty much configured.

If you already have openbsd installed to hdd then you can add fuguita to that, grab the fuguita iso image, extract out the bsd-fi and bsd-fi.mp from that and drop those in alongside the regular bsd.mp ... openbsd kernels, create a ISO folder in the slice where /var is stored and copy the fuguita iso into that folder, create a livecd-config folder in the slice where /home is (has to be different as the ISO slice is mounted read only) and that is where changes can be stored

To store changes run usbfadm within fuguita after booting using option 1. To load those again at the next boot use option 3. Rather than entering prompt answers at each boot you can create a noasks file so once you boot, enter bsd-fi.mp as the boot kernel choice (instead of the regular bsd.mp), you boot straight to desktop.

kaw provides great documentation for example

https://fuguita.org/?FuguItaGuide/3-...n#content_1_31

https://fuguita.org/?FuguItaGuide/3-...n#content_1_24 (set up noask)

What I particularly like about that myself is that you can do the initial setup, pkg_add your preferred desktop/programs, set them up as you like, and then save that using the sync option within usbfadm ... and then subsequently boot that pristine/clean version (option 3 boot choice and load the saved changes), use the desktop, shut down without saving changes (save all data outside of that, perhaps on usb or another partition), and you reboot a new/clean (but configured) system each and every time, and it all runs in ram, so lightening quick.

For your preferred bookmarks, perhaps set them up in cwm (.cwmrc)

cwm takes a little getting used to, but once you're used to it, it has high appeal. I mostly just maximise each window (Ctrl-Alt M) and alt-tab between those. Ctrl-alt-enter to start a terminal. alt-shift-? for the cwm predictive prompt where to launch say chrome you can alt-shift-? ... and type in chr and usually chrome will be highlighted so just press enter.

Has the security of OpenBSD, and the great documentation that comes with that, whilst running in ram so very quick/responsive. You do need a reasonable amount of ram though, perhaps 8GB+

I tried using cwm, but went back to using my favourite, Fluxbox, been using it for years, so quite familiar with it.

(On Linux, I quite often run JWM, if I'm not using XFCE... )

Thanks for the thorough documentation, particularly about CWM. I'm running OpenBSD 7.3 with XFCE. If I want variety I'll run Fluxbox. My OpenBSD partition runs well with 32 GB RAM.

Code:
