What is the best linux router?

I am looking for a good program or bootable os that will run as a router/firewall. That is easy to set and does not take any maintain or very little. Thanks

I hear ipcop is an excellent program although I've never had the pleasure of using it.

I put my vote to:

Smoothwall

I have installed it on an old 486 and a Pentium 2. Set up was very easy and within a few min. I had it up.

Interface is pretty simple and once it's up you can get to it via your browser. IPCop is very similar, I don't know which came first since both are very similar (did I say they are similar)

Anyway...

Best bet is to get a couple and try them out and go with what you like.

HTH

P.S.

If your looking for a bootable cd I gave this one a look:

Devil Linux

You save your config to a floppy and run everything from a cd-rom.

I agree. coyote linux is nice. Fits on a floppy. Don't even need a hard drive. You can set your configuration where all your rules load at startup. (not that you'd have to reboot it very often any way).Don't even have to log in to it. it's working when it gets to the login prompt.

Another two that I've read about:

http://clarkconnect.com/ (there's both a free and fee version)
http://closedbsd.org (BSD-based, floppy and CD version, ncurses menus)

Thumbs up

I've been using freesco for some years now
it's great for dialup

Also runs from floppy and only needs 386 with 16MB ram
Especially it has a very nice web panel to remote control it.

it's on
www.freesco.org

cheers

I think sb73542 hit it on the head.

One of the BSD's would be a great choice... much more secure out of the box... just my two cents
