Linux Handheld for hearing assist?
I'm getting the sinking feeling that my hearing (like all my relatives before me) is getting crappier with each passing year.
I can't be bothered with the expense and inconvenience of a fulltime hearing aid.
I figure it shouldn't be too hard for me to hack a linux handheld into "as needed" hearing assist. It would be a nice opportunity to tinker with some noise reduction Dsp type algorithms.
Any recommendations on suitable linux handheld? Requirements....
* Decentish sound card / ADC / DAC.
* Fair amount of grunt to slurp a packet of better than CD quality sound samples, massage it in real time and spit it out the headphone socket.
* Physical form factor that can be left "on" and in a pocket.
Any recommendations on a microphone that will collect meeting sized conversations?
Anybody know of anybody doing a similar project?
Thanks...
