2020 Hindsight
Boy, that felt like a rough year. A lot of bad things happened. An auto accident which maybe should have cost my life but which currently only resulted in a constantly-sore shoulder and lost my job for me. Worker's Comp ignoring me most of the year (I got all the way to getting an MRI on the shoulder and they never made the appointment with the doctor to evaluate it). My mother falling and breaking the pin in her hip, causing her to have surgery, go to a rehab facility, and, just before the end of the year, contract covid-19. She's still with us, but it's scary.
Lots and lots of good things happened too. When I lost my job, they classified it as a Covid layoff, so I got all that good Covid unemployment money. I'm pretty sure I made more money in 2020 than in any other year of my life. I got a job with US Census, but I felt thrown to the dogs so that only lasted 3 weeks -- and it took over 2 months to get paid, at least partly my fault. I got hired as a substitute teacher, but then they closed the schools. I got a new job helping homeless people (mostly women) IF the company takes off and meets its goals. But I've barely gotten any money out of that so far and have no working hours except as requested.
So more uncertainty, which for me means lots of stress. I'm still getting by, and am not entirely certain how, but I have almost eliminated my debt. We finally got health care for my wife, most of it free except for reduced cost of prescriptions, and she technically also has a job with the company I'm with.
I had a good time in a few trips into the HPR New Year's Eve Party Mumble room. Hope 2021 is better.
