openSUSE 11.3 in VirtualBox
openSUSE 11.3 was released July 15, 2010. For this release and a few after, openSUSE had attempted to move to an 8 month release schedule.
openSUSE 11.3 was notably the first version of openSUSE to include LXDE, a lightweight GTK based desktop environment that's been slowly phased out in favor of LXQt in recent years. As well, much attention was paid to integrating the distribution with smartphones. A package to a cloud storage service by SpiderOak attempted to bring the distribution's desktop into the era of the cloud. Although GNOME continued its regular 6 month release schedule for its final 2.x releases, a more stable GNOME 3 Preview that looks considerably different than the final 3.0 release is included.
Upon release, openSUSE 11.3 was the last version of the distribution to include OpenOffice.org as the default office suite, although later updates seem to have replaced it with an early version of LibreOffice.
From openSUSE 11.2 on, VirtualBox Guest Additions are included. At least some features work, and you can resize the window or move the cursor in and out of the virtual machine without much struggle. To get the GNOME 3 preview working as well as possible, you have to go the Display tab in the Virtual Machine's settings and enable 3D acceleration.
