Ubuntu The Easy Way

Posted 02-06-2006 at 09:04 AM by leeh

I write this in the hope that it will save people a lot of time and effort when setting up Ubuntu for the first time.

I have set up two computers for the kids, both using Linux and after much experimentation I settled on Ubuntu for the following reasons: Easy to set up, easy to use, it just works!

Well I say it just works, but there's a slight hitch! No restricted formats are included due to the Debian Open Source policy. Now for a newbie such as myself this has caused no end of trouble. Despite following instructions I was just unable to get complete satisfactory results when sorting out the multi-media. That is until I found:

************************EASY UBUNTU************************

Why I didn't find this earlier I have no idea, whoever has been involved in this project deserves a medal for the help it has provided non programmers such as myself.

A quick search on google, and I have a program called Easy Ubuntu downloaded and installing all the mult-media codecs on my machine, + plugins for Firefox, dvd's etc...

Now my kids have what I can only describe as the perfect desktop. Where everything truly does just work!

So if like me you want to use Ubuntu, save yourself a lot of time and download Easy Ubuntu and just sit back and enjoy!!!!
