wireless adapters

i am new to linux i have downloaded a sleuth distro i have about 6 wireless adapters i can not ge my linux to recognise any automatically i am in th emiddle of a degree in networking however a "newbie" with linux which i dont find ant where near as good as microsoft however my fellow students ask me to stick at it i dont want to ask them so can any body help me by explaining how i first of all find which adapter is ok to use and how i configure the drivers to work with it thank you
