Lame- Dictionary

Posted 09-11-2009 at 06:59 AM by jevans001

[I am newbie]

I have not goggled/researched much, the Dictionary panel add on. I have been using it and am annoyed that it generates a pop-up-window which takes priority over the other application windows. I have not looked much into it, so please accept my apologizes if it is something very obvious. I love Linux, Ubuntu, but have been doing homework may be venting? I can not convince the laptop speakers to generate sound, although external speakers/headphones work without inhibitions, IFF plugged in.

I have become rather paranoid too, which has been a deterrent to me posting. So, without restraint, I know my husband "F-21-C-11-E-4" my computer, he had the laptop in his possession for ten days. It used to run Windblows Vista, until it could no longer boot.

I really need to know everything that he may have done to the computer, with highly malicious intent. I have wiped Windblows, and given the breath of life from Linux. I will one day be computer SuperSavvy, then "Nerd General," and finally, disiple of the Alpha Hack.

I still have part of the path less traveled to travel.

Summary of my issues:

(1) The dictionary panel, how do I get the screen to 'go away' after the word search?

(2) What could my husband have done, really, everything that he may have done to my laptop while it was running Vista. I am asking what would you do, If you had a vendetta against me (albeit I really am cute). Super Cute. Well, my parrot is. But if you had possession of my laptop for ten days, and you really were determined to be against my interests, what would you do?

I know that you would not be personally against me, but
'to the evil turn My obvious breast.' -- Milton.

(3) Rhythm box music player hates me! (unlikely). It is rather finicky though. Even as I type this, there is a periodic sputter of static from the desktop speaker, plugged into the headphone jack. The application does not load periodically.

But, I have not invested my abilities fully into understanding problem 1, or 3. I really need more insight into problem 2.

I also want to learn about the terminal and command prompts (I know very little). I admire one of my professors because he uses nothing but the command line.
