Homework

I recently bought a Dell AIO 810, mostly for the scanner, as I had 30 and 40 year old pics I wanted to backup to CD. Unfortunately, I didn't do my preparatory homework. LQ and other forums told me that no one had ever made that model work with Linux. I boxed it up and took it back to WalMart. Well....... It seems that Dell put one serial number on the box and a totally different one on the unit. So here I am, arguing with the manager, who is looking at me like I am trying to pull some kind of scam on her. No one I know is looking to buy an all in one printer-scanner-copier-fax, so I'm stuck with it. If I have to buy a copy of XP for my spare machine just to get some use out of the equipment, I will be positively ill.
