Xubuntu won't shut down - black screen after trying to shut down

Just installed Xubuntu 9.10 on an old laptop (Fujistu-Siemes C1010) from 2001. Everything works fine but when trying to shut down I get a black screen and I have to shut down manually.

I have tried adding the following to line CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" in /etc/default/grub without success:

* "pci=noacpi"
* "acpi=force"
* "acpi=force pci=noacpi"
* "noacpi"

The shutdown command doesn't work either.

Any ideas?

(BTW, the installation went black too and I had to install in graphic safe mode.)

Thanks

Look in /var/log/messages and /var/dmesg
