Edit: I meant 64 bit, of course... |

Considering the current "Long Lived Branch" version is 384.98 and the "Short Lived Branch" version is 387.34, it will be awhile before we run through the 390.xx series. |
I would love if this is the thing that finally pushes steam to put out a 64bit client.
But it would be smart for Nvidia to continue to bundle 32bit libraries. I imagine they'll still be in use for quite some time by older games that will never get a 64bit port. |
For me, It can't be soon enough to dump 32-bit multilib compat32 in my nivia SBo scripts. Of course, that also means another nvidia-legacy script...

Nvidia has released a new "Long Lived Branch" driver, version 384.111.

Nvidia has released the first beta of their 390 series, the last series that will support 32-bit.

A few days ago I installed the beta 390 drivers on 3 systems - a new Debian Stretch install, an old 32 bit Slackware with a newly built 4.14.12 kernel, and my Main this 14.2 Multilib which also has a custom 4.14.12. The nVidia beta driver did indeed ask to install 32 bit libraries (I use the nvidia installer from runlevel 3) and runs fine and also honors my old "autostart" script to increase base fan speed and set PowerMizer to "prefer performance" instead of "adaptive". I'm pleased.

For those who may not see the other thread, 390 is the last Nvidia driver to offer support for 32bit OSes. However, it is unknown if they will continue to offer 32bit libraries on 64bit OSes (aka multilib).

OK, did get a response. I don't think he understood what I was asking about, but none of it is anything new:

Yeah, man! That sucks! Tragedy! :p
I welcome you in the bunch of those who have to rely in the open source drivers or in nothing. :D Probably in future you will not agree so lightly with the X.org upgrades, right? :p |

(And if they don't I'm switching to AMD). |
