Pan v0.155 (the current developers, on the mailing-list/newsgroup, said they're releasing in GNOME GitLab lately) (I use it daily).
Not that slackpkg should make/use a database (would be a mess to use) but I think it should at least continually log any/all packages that are broken (don't completely install right, bad md5sum, etc.) because occasionally for some odd reason it's interrupted or one doesn't see the list of bad md5sums. Otherwise, I request documentation for how to log it oneself on the command-line while still seeing output & interacting.
All of those require that something from the x directory must be installed.
Even moc (music on console)
After removing all of X...
slackpkg remove x/*

So, my opinion stands.... ffmpeg should be in xap
For that matter, since it requires that items from the x dir be installed....
moc should also be in xap along with mplayer which also requires items from x

Since Slackware doesn't split binaries and libraries, my POV is that those directories a/ ... l/ ... x/ xap/ etc. are just relic of first release on separate floppy disks
I for one, I don't try to give more meaning to these directories.
99% of the time, I use Firefox and Konsole, but I have a full install.
Everything works as it should. period

Which suggests that _this_ is the best course-of-action.
Eliminate the subdirs and just have _all_ of the packages in /slackware(64)
Also eliminate the options of menu/expert so that the _only_ way to install slackware is ALL-or-NOTHING.

LOL
I just want Menu removed only because it is redundant and unnecessary since Expert is the exact same thing; and I still wish that the output of Expert be changed to a terse output.

But, but, but.... would not a terse output of EVERYTHING also fix that ?
No menu option, no expert option, no sub dirs to mess with, just install EVERYTHING and be done with it.

I guess you are just trolling, but I am still being serious. There is no need for both Menu and Expert , removing Menu would imo simplify/unclutter the installer menu, and terse would make the output / install quicker. While I don't use the tag option, that doesn't mean it should be removed just because I don't use that. My argument is solely based efficiency. Full, Full Terse, Expert (terse output), Tagfiles imo should suffice.

Simply being redundant is no sufficient for removal.
Removing the "Menu" option will have the effect that when someone asks why a custom installation does not work, they will get the consistent reply here "You must be able to resolve the problem yourself because you chose Expert", so saving everyone a lot of time.
