Newb Slack Question
 

I've been dabbling endlessly with SuSE 7.3 for about a month now, and while that is all well and good, I want to install Slack because I hear it's still usable to a newbie. I still want to keep SuSE as a working OS and have slack to dabble deeper and learn. And of course...windows still does games too well to trash it. Having said that, I have a couple of questions...

1) Can slack share the SuSE swap drive to save that 160 mb or so?

2) Is 3 gig enough space for a slack partition? I realize that it'll install fine, but do you all find yourselves adding a lot of apps/updating to the point where 3 gig isn't enough?

3) I almost killed my win partition today...so needless to say, I'm a little nervous to partition for Slack. Will the installation procedure see/recognize my other partitions, so I can just use 3 gig from my SuSE root partition? Can I use 3 gig from my SuSE root partition?

1) Yep.

2) Probably. So long as you're not gonna have an install frenzy, then 3G is OK, I guess. I'm running with 6 at the moment, but I like a little freedom to play with software.

3) If you have a partition already set-up under SuSE, then make a note of what the partition number it is, and you should be OK.

A word of caution, though. Do not install the Slack boot-loader. Stick with your SuSE boot-loader for now. There's a couple of threads around on how to triple boot. In summation, you'd boot into SuSE, mount your Slack partition, copy the kernel into your SuSE partition, edit your lilo.conf/grub.conf file appropriately, save run and reboot.
