Latest Firefox (88.0.1) has trouble with -current changelog...
I usually check the Slackware -current changelog with Firefox and the following link:
ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/s.../ChangeLog.txt Latest version has trouble with this link despite setting Firefox as the default application for both ftp and txt files. The Firefox dialogue box asks again and again for me to set an application for ftp links and does not open the txt changelog. Could very well be a misconfiguration on my part so I am curious to see if others have the same issue? |
Mozilla dropped support for FTP in Firefox 88.0. The link works fine in my Slackware 14.2 Firefox (68.12 ESR).

Having dug a little deeper it appears that ftp functionality has not actually been removed in Firefox 88.0 and later although I believe that this functionality will eventually be removed in Firefox 90.
On my own system, having weighed up the security concerns, toggling 'network.ftp.enabled' to 'true' in Firefox's 'about:config' restores the old behaviour: Code:
network.ftp.enabled true |
You can read it here: https://slackware.osuosl.org/slackwa.../ChangeLog.txt
