Is slackware dead this 2020?

I've heard that the last update was back in 2016, so im wondering if slackware is still alive, is slackware still getting updated?

Timothy Miller 01-30-2020 02:24 PM

YAY, the first "Is Slackware dead" of 2020!!!

No, Slackware is alive and well.

A reputation-killing first post... luckily your reputation points are still zero.

There have been a number of threads like this recently. Did you do a search or check the list of similar threads before submitting this one?

vtel57 01-30-2020 02:57 PM

Aw... don't be so hard on the OP. We haven't seen a good "Is slackware dead" thread around here in a while. ;)

captain_sensible 01-30-2020 02:59 PM

well i'm going to take the psychologist approach so @Mx-angel my guess is that's just a naive post rather than deliberate antagonism . Jesus people are touchy on here

Is that the case ?

PROBLEMCHYLD 01-30-2020 03:25 PM

I knew another one these threads was coming. They are neverending.

It's funny but many users think things are dead unless they are constantly updated. Now I get that in the FOSS world, the users are the testers, but rapid change is not always good. Also, if no vulnerabilities and something works, no need to change it. I have used FOSS apps that haven't been updated in years but they have no vulnerabilities and still work fine.

I will admit though that Slackware is very different than most Linux distros out there so users not accustomed to how things in the Slack world work are going to be thrown for a loop.

Son, it's ok to fail, it is part of life. If you survive this you will be much stronger!

I seriously doubt it's an introduction or first post, perhaps their first with this screen name but most likely a troll hiding behind a new cloak.

Skaendo 01-30-2020 04:08 PM

Please don't feed the trolls.

Someone please lock this thread and throw the troll in the dungeon.
