Firestarter in slackware?
 

Ive got my slackware system running, but there are a few problems i have:

1. Configuring internet access. Surprisingly, i did not need to do any configuring for internet access. Simply swiched on my modem and fired up the computer. The problem is, i cannot see or control my network cards. I have two of them. 1 is connected to the net - with DHCP , the other is intended to have a static IP, for my 'internal' network. I need to find a way to configure them - KDE control centre does not have a option for this so how can i configure my network cards?

2. Firestarter 1.0.3. I had firestarter intalled on a mandrake system and found it easy to use. I visted the firstarter website and it states that the program supports various distros - i did not see slackware listed. My question is does this program function correctly under the latest slackware (bearing in mind i dont have gnome as yet?) If not, what alternative firewall can i use. I cant use anything complicated, it has to have a simple gui for me to be able to use it because i dont understand things.

firestarter works fine with slack

Firestarter (and nearly everything else) will work fine in Slackware, however there are no official packages for it.

You either need to take your chances with a 3rd party package, or compile it yourself from source. That is the Slackware way.

To change your net config, edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf. Then run /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 restart to restart you network cards.


BTW, the config file is easy to understand.
