I just walked two blocks to my post office and mailed Pat a thanks card and check for $126. Thanks for packaging Slackware for 26 years, great accomplishment. Cheers!

Donation sent. I will pay for my download of Slackware 15.0 when released. Many thanks to Patrick and the Slackware Team for my operating system.

Found a Slackware Patreon page today: https://www.patreon.com/slackwarelinux/overview

PV, can you confirm if this is authentic? PM sent as well.

PV hasn't confirmed its legitimacy. I now side on the idea that it is legitimate seeing as PV must have seen it by now [it's been posted several times] and hasn't said anything. It certainly needs improved wording though [again, I would offer to reword it].

I, also, am leaning to it being real or "in-progress", but I'm waiting for it to be declared. Until then, will continue to make "mostly regular" donations to https://paypal.me/volkerdi

Same. I will wait until Patrick informs us about a new payment vehicle.

ttk 07-29-2019 11:23 AM

Me too. As much as I would like to see a Slackware patreon, I would rather be certain that Patrick was receiving my donations.

I'm taking the opposite approach. I side on the idea it is not legitimate until such time Patrick confirms it is.

I am bit surprised there are 12 folks listed as Patrons. I could be wrong, but the wording does not sound like Patrick. Tier 1 "Happy Dude" LOL

This is the basic concept of a "trust network": wait until any 3% and 7% and 12% and 24% trusted parties suggest your trust to that 3rd party.

And it might still be a good idea to withhold your trust. That bit's left up to you.

Yes. There was a fake account before involving bitcoin if memory serves. I will continue to donate to Pat's paypal account until directed otherwise by the man himself.

My reasoning is thus: PV is pretty quick to stop people from spending their money when it's not linked to him. Two examples, in this thread, are here and here, both where links were put up and Pat was quick to confirm or not whether the enterprise was linked to him [as long as that enterprise, in the case of the shop, were 'ready'].

In the case of the Patreon, a few of us agree that the wording is off, and that makes us think that the account is fake. However, as I said earlier in this thread, this is the first time that PV has tried to make serious money off Slackware itself, and it can be hard to write a promotional blurb for something that's very close to one's heart. In spite of good intentions, sometimes it just comes out a bit awkwardly.
