Dell Vostro atheros 5007eg chipset

Hello Slackers,

I've installed slackware 12.2 and am having trouble with my atheros wireless card.

I've read alot of other members posts that are experiencing similar issues but haven't found a solution that's worked for me.

What's going on is my wireless card is getting detected and everything and is using the ath5k driver but I can't connect to any access points.

I've read other users having the same problem and it's supposedly because the ath5k driver doesn't work well with encryption.

What I've tried is to download and install the madwifi driver but can't get it to compile.

I found a thread on here that talks about using a snapshot of the madwifi source and that will work, but I can't find that thread anymore or the site by googling.

If someone could point me to a already submitted thread or just the best method to use to get this working I would greatly appreciate.

I've seen a lot of stuff on this but I've kinda gotten lost in the many different variations of the problem and figuring out which symptoms I'm experiencing.

In the meantime I'm going to go through this How-to: http://madwifi.org/Downloads/0.Howto...ll.Madwifi.txt

Let me know if you need me to post any info like lspci, lsmod, or dmesg.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot Drakeo,

I was just about to try using ndiswrapper since I've gotten my wireless to work previously in slackware that way (different card though).

That post that you pointed me to was actually dealing with Ubuntu, so hopefully it works on slackware also.

I've already noticed one difference in the process for Slackware, you can't load modules at start-up by adding a statement to /etc/modules, but whatever . . I have a feeling this is going to be my solution. X )

So I installed the ndiswrapper slackware package

I did the following commands:

ndiswrapper -i myinffile.inf

checked if everything went ok with

ndiswrapper -l

This command said something like

netathw installed present (alternate ath5k)

I already blacklisted the ath5k driver before trying ndiswrapper.

but when I do: modprobe ndiswrapper it says that it can't be found!

I'm stumped.

I did lspci while running Back Track 3 and it says that I have the 5006eg card and not the 5007eg card. So I'm going to try using that driver instead but I don't think that will make a difference since they appear to be the exact same driver, but I'll try it anyway.

If someone can tell what the problem might be please let me know, and sorry for not having the actual terminal output but I have to boot off my thumbdrive to get to the internet so that I can look for solutions and post so . . .

Thanks again.
