X server in console 1 crashes on return from console 2
 

Hi kids....

I'm using more or less stock Redhat 9. If I try to switch from an X server session on Virtual console 1, and then I do Ctrl-Alt-F2 to get to Virtual Console 2, it works fine -- I get a prompt and so forth.

But then, if I try Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get back to my X session, the X server invariably crashses.


Anyone else experience this?

your X session should be on ctrl-alt-F7 not F1. Was that a typo?

I thought the same thing the first time it happened to me.

ctrl+alt+F[1-6] are your command-line terminals. When you start an X session, you get back to it with
ctrl+alt+F7
If you start a second X session it will reside on F8.
