Slack 10.2 slack 10.2 ran xserver after all on sata with via board
Well, after a real few days of frustrating effort to get the xserver up, and I ran into all kinds of trouble in an intel i915, the xserver runs fine on via motherboard. i used the same xorg.conf file, i figure the trouble is that I need to upgrade to a 2.6.x kernel from the default 2.4.31 that comes with slack 10.2 and build kernel support for the i915 in character devices in menuconfig.

Welcome to LQ!
You might have left off some details that would help us understand your post. From my point of view, I'm thinking, "WTH?" |
Is this a success story or a cry for help?

f.y.i. - perry ps. the reason i went with 10.2 is that it was able to detect the intel graphics card i was using a whole lot better than previous verions (the intel card was an imbedded board) |
its a success :)
I wrote the post when I first tried the slackware 10.2 distribution. I was having a lot of difficulty in configuring the X server, I wanted to use KDE. I had used an intel motherboard with intel i915 chipset but the X windows didnt start up. I am sorry I have not saved the error message outputs. I then used a via board which came with an nvidia chipset and the KDE started up perfectly rightaway. So, thats why I was real happy and sent the post. Of course, the X server works on the intel too. I have now installed Slackware 10.2 with upgraded kernel version 2.6.14.4 with KDE desktop environment in a machine with AMD 64 dual opteron processor on a seagate SCSI hdd,Asus K8 NDL board and the KDE runs fine.
