After Windows comes Linux....
Hello Fans,
wondering why in many distros it's so difficult to get wifi connection... they all have a wired presetconnection but that is not working either. So i'm happy with Zorin and easy connection. I know there are more difficult things to come... you will hear from me! thanks in advance... |

Welcome aboard. :)
As suggested, use the network manager supplied by the distro to connect to wifi. |

KUbuntu 'just works' here. I have a couple of laptops and as above just enter SSID and password and you are there (as long as you are in range of course). I've installed KUbuntu on my dad's laptop and it was just as easy in his home. Not difficult at all. My desktops, and servers are all 'hard-wired' which also is simple to setup (with DHCP it is just <click> in cable and automatically connected, static IPs not that much more difficult). Those RPIs (PI OS) that require Wifi are also just as simple to setup. But I am sure there are 'some' distros that are harder to setup Wifi. Just haven't run into them lately :) .
Welcome. |
Hi Fans !
All the nice answers give me some form of hope when it comes to wifi. But i must say even with the hotspot of my phone there are no positiv results. And to think about ssid's is also horrible. Why is there no better way like in Zorin!? till next time |
Hi Fans, still satisfied with zorin 17.1... so far so good.... but there is another funny thing... when using skype, aafter shutdown and new start into windows11 there is always a 6hour difference to my real time. I skype with a german friend and the time difference is 6 hours but in the settings of win11 and the zorin the have both the same timezone... so what happens here... how can i stopp that.. its not nice to adjust the time everytime again, even when the timezone is set to auto, the time is set to auto... and i think it should not happen at all
Thanks for your input in advance.... |
Windows I think is your problem. It screws with time settings. I don't do Windows so to me. It sounds a setting has to be changed in there.
Good luck. |

Short story: Windows expects to be the only OS on the machine, which causes problems like this for dual-booters. Solution: Wipe Windows altogether, install Linux and then install VirtualBox on top of Linux to create a Windows VM (if you need Windows for something in particular). |

For that i need a solution for another problem with zorin... how can i stream my downloaded movies to the smarttv? it"s no problem with windows but not possible for zorin, or is it possible? An answer would be nice C U |
You need the manual for your keyboard/laptop/desktop.
Since we don't know the gear. Up to you to find it. I stream to big TV with a certain key hit on my laptop. Have to hook up a hdmi cable though. Then my video has to support screen resolution on big tv. Unless your TV is bluetooth. Pretty sure cable is needed that I mentioned. Open Bluetooth in zorin and see if your TV shows up first I guess. I am gonna back out of this intro thread because the OP needs to open his own threads in the zorin section. https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/zorin-os-107/ |

my gear is a MSI GT77, with i9, rtx3070ti, and so on. When i use windows i don't have to use a cable... its going wireless without network conection. In the Display options i go to multiple displays and then tell it to connect. After i start the mirror on tv untill its waiting for a connectingquestion. Then it take about 30 sec. until the picture of my screen apears on tv. thenstarting the movie in fullscreen and i can look it on smarttv from Sharp 55". And thanks for your kind answer.... |
