Odd Problem

Ok, I have a laptop running debian linux, kernel 2.2 on a 450mb partition.
The other partition is a fat32, about 1gig, not quite sure with win98. I have lilo dual-booting it. Whenever I go into linux and then reboot and go into windows, I get an XMS error. The only way to fix it is to boot up an old zipslack distro and cut the pwoer, it seems if either linux shuts down completely it kills my win drive. My laptop ran zipslack linux a few months ago with no trouble but I lost it a failed drive. I got my new one and partitioned it for debian. Now even zipslack does this. My only way is to kill the power without unmounting the drive. That isn't a good idea though so...

Help?

i also faced similar problem in my micron laptop. i used redhat 7.1 and win98 with lilo boot. whenever i reboot from linux using reboot command and loading windows it produce some err message(something related with HIMEMory, i don't remeber exactly). then i can use windows if i turn of the laptop and then restart it.

did you ever fix it? I don't want ot have to wait for disk scan/repair on every linux bootup
