Toshiba Satellite front LCD display
 

Just wonder if someone knows how to make the front LCD display to work on Toshiba satellite laptop. Basically, how to achieve the same behavior as under window (mainly displaying the time instead of always 'welcome').

Any experience anyone?

Clearer in what what way?
Toshiba satellite laptops have an LCD display on the front. This displays shows various information like battery status, time, volume control, etc..
Under windows, all the fonctionnalities work fine. Not with Linux where the display stays stuck on 'Welcome' all the time.
Just wonder if there is an utility to make the lcd display to work.

Have you tried checking http://www.linux-laptop.net/ , http://tuxmobil.org/index.html , someone probably already installed linux on a similar model.

Sorry forgot to add, clearer (in my opinion) means more data ... i.e. model, make, os, etc.... :p

Yep I had a look there and no mention of the display working. I guess it just doesn't...
More information-wise, I assumed all the new satellite models had the same front display... For the record, it is a 5000-105 (french keyboard) running slackware 9.1. There are simply no review of that specific model... I am going to write one eventually I think.

You have to understand that this "front" screen are small programms made by toshiba to run under Windows.
Since your Linux is not made for your Toshi, you have to transform it a little...
Under debian, duno if your case but you probably could find the sources somewhere, you may install :
ACPI for power management and make sure to remove APM (S2450)
fnfxd for hot keys
optionally toshset (not with ACPI) or toshutil
