Lenova ideapad 3 keyboard and touchpad not recognized.
I have a weird problem with my new lenova ideapad 3. I've tried it with 3 recent linux live distros and with none of them is the keyboard or touchpad seen.
There is no problem during boot and with grub the keyboard works fine. The virtual keyboard also works. A new usb hub, external usb keyboard and mouse also work fine. Installed the latest manjaro linux and updated the system. The internal keyboard and touchpad are still not detected. (but fine during boot -remember? - boot uses simpler module). I've install linux many times over the years and solved many different problems but I've never had a keyboard not detected! Is lenova doing something weird to a laptop it sells without an OS? |
Please post the outputs of lsusb and lspci.

Update
Still no fix, but it looks like a faulty keyboard. Holding down F! on power on produces 01000003: Keyboard not Detected
An easy check would be to try Linux (live on USB) on any old Lenova Ideapad 3 Slim ... but not for Lenova tech support who usually start with... "Unfortunately, we do not support Linux operating system and as such this device was not intended for the mentioned operating system. We can offer assistance in regard to the Windows Operating system which was intended for use on said device. Please install Windows 11 and check to see if the issue persists." So, download 15 Gigabytes and install MS Windows to see if Lenova comes with a broken keyboard! So does anyone out there have experience of Linux on an Lenova Ideapad 3 with or without a functioning keyboard? |
Word from Lenova
According to lenova my keypad and touchpad work fine with ms windows.
So if I want to have a fully functioning ideapad 3 I MUST use ms windows. I get the impression lenova tech support(U.K.) is not helpful. I suspect that during assembly the keyboard was not connected correctly. Any Linux user should bear this in mind if considering lenova. |

Hi Amir of lenova tech support. It seems you ignore that even lenovas own website reports this model of laptop as being very Linux compatible.

On my Lenovo Yoga i had same issue. Solution was to add kernel boot options. Might be the same for your Ideapad, try adding "i8042.direct" and "i8042.dumbkbd"
