Laptop Samsung NP-RV515: Mint Mate?
Hi all,
thank you for your support and work around the Linux Mint project, I really appreciate it. I'm new to Linux Mint therefore I'm now moving my first steps towards the knowledge regarding the different versions of Mint. I've got an old laptop Samsung NP-RV515 with 4 RAM DDR2 and the CPU "AMD E-Series E-450" (1.65 GHz dual core e 2 threads). I'm using a SSD. Would you please confirm my idea that it would be more appropriate to install the "Mate" edition (instead of the "Cinnamon" one) on this specific laptop hardware configuration? Or maybe even the XFCE editon? Thank you |
MATE is a little lighter weight than Cinnamon, but, if you have 4GB RAM, I doubt it would be a significant difference.
But that's just me. You might try booting to Live CD/USBs of each and seeing for yourself. (Note a Live CD/USB version will inherently be a bit slower than an installed version.) |
I have mine running pretty quick

frariky,
Welcome to LQ forums. There is little to choose between MATE and Xfce in terms of installation size, but they are both lighter than Cinnamon. LM MATE would be fine for your Samsung. |
Thank you all for your kind answer.
I'll go for the Mate edition then |
