I can't connect to Wifi using Fedora 10. Help please.
Hello guys,
I've bought a MSI wind netbook last week with the card RTL8187SE. I installed fedora 10 and did some updates and it was fine, but i cant detect any wireless connection. I tried to install the card driver using ndiswrapper, got some tutorials, and i followed this video on how to install driver using ndiswrapper. http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/...swrapper-video i think i installed the driver succesfully, but the problem now is i dont know how to configured the wireless thing. my school has a wifi with a key, i know the key and i want to connect to it, i tried to create a new wireless connection with the key, but when i try to connect, its always says on the status "connecting", and never connected. |

Enter as root command: modprobe rtl8187 If it doesn't work, you need to update kernel. |

it doesnt work. so what should i do now? |
The best way is update kernel. I have similar WIFI RTL8187B 0bda:8198 which gave me many problems, but if I'm not mistaken family of rtl8187 wifi cards have been supported since kernel 2.6.29 (properly)

Hello guys.
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. So i'm really sick and tired in figuring it out so i decided to upgrade my fedora 10 to fedora 11 by using "preupgrade" on the terminal yum The upgrade and installation was successful (took me 10 hours). But my problem is still not solve. Here are the new information from my upgrade lspci Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) Code:

platform microcode: firmware: requesting intel-ucode/06-1c-02 Code:

Fedora 11 (2.6.30.5-43..fc11.i686.PAE) Hope you can help me with my wireless problem. Thanks |
Enter as root command:
modprobe rtl8187se if it doesn't work, show me result of cat /boot/<name of config file> | grep RTL8187 <name of config file> - usually config-<version of kernel> |
When i typed
modprobe rtl8187se this is the output Code:
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in future release output: Code:
CONFIG_RTL8187=m |
You haven't compiled rtl8187se driver into kernel, therefore you have to do it manually. I read a little about this driver, It is sill not finished, so maybe you check out driver dedicated windows.
At first install 'ndiswrapper', next download driver from this page http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...true#RTL8187SE cd to directory containing 'net8187.inf' file (or something like that), enter commands (of course as root user): ndiswrapper -i rtl8187.inf ndiswrapper -m Enjoy the net. If it doesn't work, I am afraid you need wait until kernel driver will be finished. Don't worry work is in progress so this may take about 3 months. |
