Fedora Live USB Works on one computer but not on another
Ok I have a 4GB Mini Attache PNY USB Stick, and have successfully downloaded Fedora 11 on it, but when I try booting from it on my computer I get the following error:
" Missing Operating System Missing Operating System No Operating System Found " But when I try it on another computer (Vista, the other was XP), it works. Is this my BIOS? If so how can I fix it? Thank you! |
Yep
sounds like your bios also check that the HD group is booting first not cdrom or floppy |

You can check the computer manufacturer's (unless it's a clone, in which case you'll want the motherboard manufacturer's) website for an updated BIOS. Follow their instructions for installing the update.

Post the model number of the laptop.
Does the computer boot windows XP successfully? Is the BIOS is configured to boot from a USB device first. Do you have any other USB storage devices plugged into the computer? Not enough information to know if it is a BIOS problem that requires an update. |

Model Number:Gateway MX6027 Only if you consider USB Mouses and keyboards storage devices. -Some Questions: 1.If I set the computer to boot from USB Device first, will it still boot from Windows if it fails? 2.How do I set USB Device to be first? When I go to the BIOS menu, then go to boot part, and click enter on USB Storage device it does nothing, along with all of the other parts. Do I move the Entry up? |
Yes, you must move the usb up as first device
it will boot windows if the usb boot fails |
Yes BIOSs will automatically go to the next device on boot order list if the current device does not exist or is not bootable. Not familiar with BIOS options of Gateways but yes the device at the top of the list boots first. So if a USB device is not first it needs to be moved up the list.

No
I don't mind it's freezing? you mean the desktop? when it's freezing is the little light blibking on your usb? if it is that's cause it's saving info back to usb couple pointers- it will run alot faster if you make your usb ext3/fat32 meaning 1st partition on usb is ext3 2nd partition is fat32 1st partition is bootable and usses grub reason for fat32 partition? so you can move files from ext3 partition and dindows. 2nd pointer open the "services" thing from menu and turn off "cups" and anything you don't need running 3rd uninstall cups + other stuff you don't need 4th open firefox and goto "edit/preferences" from toolbar st it up to delete browsing history, cache, etc except passwords set it up to delete it when firefox closes automatically don't try to get updates unless you made a pretty big persistentce thingy |

Whenever I click enter to choose a boot option [freezes] Whenever I wait for it to boot once it gets to 1 [freezes] Whenever I click tab [freezes] I'm putting this in a new thread |
