Screen size problem

Here's what i did. I ran xf86config entered my monitor EV910 Hoz. 31-96 khz Ver. 50-160 hz, selected 18 for the Nvidia driver, entered 342 for the resolution (800x600 1204x760 640x480). When i startx the screen is way to big. I have to move the mouse to the corners to see the rest of the screen. When i switch the resolutions around to 432 the screen fits right, but all the lettering is too small. What's up here? In Windows the screen was 800x600 and it was fine. I am running kde also.

The problem lies in the choice of screen resolution: "800x600 1204x760 640x480" makes your desktop the largest size that is specified (1204x760), but uses the first resolution specified (800x600) as the default screen resolution. That's why you were getting the scrolling effect. If you want a desktop of 800x600, choose an option more like "800x600 640x480".

Ok, i did that. I changed it to 800x600 640x480 and now the screen is right, but the lettering is small in the menu bar. In Mozilla the lettering is fine inside the browser, but the mozillas toolbar is small. I can hardly read the print(File Edit Go)

Might be a font problem... I am not too sure how to remedy that. Maybe someone else has some ideas.

How do i change the resolution for the log on screen. All the fonts are small as hell in there too. All my error message fonts are so small i can hardly read them. In Gnome and Kde. The fonts are fine in the menu bars, mozilla in Gnome, but in Kde i can hardly read them. This is making my eyes hurt alittle trying to read stuff.

Just wondering are your eyes healthy? If not maybe you should try 640*480. If not there should be a font size setting under the settings of your desktop environment.
