Nvidia Driver - Works as Root

I installed the nvidia driver so I could play tux racer and quake3 :) And it all worked well. Untill I turned off my computer. When I restarted and tried to start the X server I got an error unable to initialize the nvidia driver. (I spent awhile playing with the config file and trying to load modules but to no avail). If I then switch to root and start X it works fine, logout and then i can log in as a normal user and start X. Any ideas as to why?( I didn't have this problem before the nvidia drivers. )I tried searching for it but im not too sure what the problem actually is...? I guess it is something to do with permissions?

I have never had a problem like this before with different nvidia cards and it has me quite stumped :(

Mandrake 10, Kernel 2.6.3-4mdk, Nvidia -v 5336

Thanks,

Well, my best guess would be that something is loading when root starts it up.

just a shot in the dark, are you loading the nvidia kernel module before starting x11?

no :)
A modprobe fixed it nicely. :) Must of been what fixed it the first time to...should try one thing at a time for troubleshooting, oh well I'll know for next time :)

Thankyou Kernel_Mustard.

Also, adding it to you /etc/autoload.d/kernel-version file wouldn't be a bad idea if you haven't done it already. ;) That's where that stuff is in Gentoo though, so I'm not sure if it's the same in Mandrake even though I used Mandrake for a month. lol
