First Linux Distro Installed
 
Hey i just installed my first linux distro (mandrake 10.0) and i really like it im on it more than windows now and it was very easy to install and setup thers only one problem is that i can get my nvidia dirves installed right but i dont realy use it and its from an old compaq so it dont really matter but i really like linux for my first time it takes a lil time to get used to but its fun to work with.Ive had a lil trouble tryin to install a file sharing program im still tryin lol i cant belive i didnt try it befor its sooo much better than winblows i would of had it install earlyer but lycrois or mandrake 9.2 wouldnt install for me but anyway i need to ask a question, when you install an rpm how do you find out were it has gone ?? lol.

I cut my teeth on Mandy too. It's a nice distro. It tends to be a little bleeding edge in what they include and so there is a higher risk towards instability, but still a rock solid distro.

I now use SuSE and will be upgrading to SuSE 9.1 after all the bugs are worked out.

In Mandy, most of your globally installed apps will go in the /usr partition. Use the Locate command to find out where it is. If you have no locate command, install it...

yeah there are usually in /usr/bin
and if u install a program like synaptic it will tell u where they are installed to.

BTW synaptic is a gui for apt-get which is a package manager that make installing and downloading software a breeze , check it out
