What minimum screen resolution do I need to install kubuntu.23.10 ?
 

I have kubuntu.23.10 iso file ready to use to boot so I can install kubuntu.

I booted from USB, but I believe my 1600 x 900 resolution on my laptop is not high enough; I can't see the right and bottom of the installation screens.

Is there a way around this, or is my laptop just too old with an inadequate resolution?

P.S. Let me know if this is the wrong distro for this question. I only saw an "ubuntu" distro in the list and not one for kubuntu specifically.

1600x900 is plenty!

But if for some reason it's not displaying the resolution the Kubuntu installer is using properly, then ... well obviously you've got a problem.

I don't know how it is with the Kubuntu installer, but with the Debian installer there's an option to use it in "text" mode rather than graphical mode. That'll display adequately on pretty much anything.

Doing a search, I think that for Kubuntu there's a separate iso file for the text mode installer. I've never used it, so I can't say for absolutely sure. But Ubuntu is basically based on Debian, so I think the text mode installer will basically be the same as the Debian installer in text mode.

It may be a bit different from what you're used to from the Kubuntu graphical installer, but the Debian text installer is practically identical to the Debian graphical installer - just uglier and without mouse control. But all the steps and choices are the same.

Oh, I should note that your ThinkPad's BIOS may have some options for how to display different resolution screens. So, you may be able to simply go into the BIOS and alter that setting to something like "fit to screen" rather than "pixel for pixel".

Ah, great..! I'll first try looking at BIOS settings as that seems easier than finding a text-based installer.

I will search for a kubuntu text installer next....
