Shutdown sequence hangs at "Reached target Power-Off."
1 Attachment(s)
I boot two different versions of Xubuntu by ISO, 16 (Xenial) & 20 (Fossa).
Xenial shuts down normally. Fossa hangs at the title quote you can also see in the photo: Attachment 42629 At that point I power-off with the power button. Am I missing a trick for Fossa shut down? |
Just as a data point, does this occur when shutting down via the GUI and when shutting down via the CLI?

To check poweroff log
Code:
journalctl -b -1 -r |

It was a bumbling way of asking for more information. |

What happens when you try the poweroff command?

I was impressed how instantaneously the command executes. |
Still struggling with this problem I'll rephrase it. Consider the two bit matrix:
USBFLASH or HD OLDER or NEWER (distribution version) This problem only exists in one of the four possibilities - HD-NEWER. When I boot the NEWER .iso on the internal HD, it hangs during shutdown. I have to use the power button to force a shutdown. The OLDER distro, or the NEWER distro by USBFLASH, shutdown normally. potential causes? I am only thinking to experiment with more distros. |
more Xubuntu testing:
Jammy Jellyfish (22) is NOT shutting down. Bionic Beaver (18) shuts down normally. Fossa Focal (20) is ONLY shutting down by USB FLASH (thumbdrive). It is NOT shutting down by internal HD or USB HD. Fossa begins to boot by extracted .iso (live), hanging 'Unable to find a medium container a live file system'. That was an experiment to see if I can shutdown live Fossa on disk. Fossa is most important, still stuck booting it USB FLASH. Succinctly: From Xubuntu Fossa onward, a live boot will only shut down by USB FLASH. |
you need to look for information like this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=290374
Probably changing the kernel will solve it. Or changing the video driver. (or something else). Unfortunately it is extremely hard to diagnose from a remote location. |
