L ubuntu 22.04 failed when upgrading on Acer
Hi everyone, I was going to upgrade Lubuntu 18.04 to L ubuntu 22.04 via ventoy usb key iso, on my Acer labtop when it booted to the GRUb menu whith these options:
* Try or install lubuntu * Lubuntu ( Safe graphics) * Boot from next volume * UEFI Firmware setting I choose the first option, the system run a moment and it stopped with a screen containing logo of Lubuntu as it it is showed in these screen-shoot that you can go to it by this link https://ibb.co/7RvYqMq I tried the second option and the result was the same. Here the link for the boot-info I made http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/xbJx45n8xX/ Thank you for your help. |
I guess you need to upgrade 18.04 to 20.04 first. Do you want to reinstall ubuntu or upgrade?
What kind of hardware do you have? |
@pan64, thanks to your reply, I want to stress that I'm on a dual boot windows 10 and lubuntu 18.04 and I'm going to install lubuntu 22.04, the newest version of lubuntu, so it is in fact an upgrading because 18.04 is already setting up and it works very well. I tried firstable to upgrade my o.s to 20.04 as you guessed, but it failed too. I posted a thread in this forum on this topic. See " Boot failed on Linux when upgrading on Ubuntu 20.04" on mars 19, 2022.
When it failed, I reinstalled lubuntu 18.04. These are more details about my P.C hardware and system: Quote:

so you reinstalled 18.04? In that case better to reinstall 22.04 instead of upgrading that.
Also would be nice to post exactly what did you try and what was the response (just to be able to help you). |
@ pan64, I want to install Lubuntu 22.04. I made an iso image disk on ventoy usb key. When I boot via the boot manager menu with my lubuntu 18.04, I have access either to windows, or lubuntu 18.04 or to ventoy usb key which contains the lubuntu 22.04 iso image disk. I choose the third option to install lubuntu 22.04. It rebooted to the GRUb menu whith these options:
* Try or install lubuntu * Lubuntu ( Safe graphics) * Boot from next volume * UEFI Firmware setting I choose the first option, the system run a moment and it stopped with a screen containing logo of Lubuntu. That is the situation, I hope I was being clear. |

@ondoho, what does it mean and what implications it makes on my issue?
|
When you select the USB with Lubuntu which you made with Ventoy you see the options and errors you reported, correct? If you look at the bootinfo output, you will see (starting at line 70) that there are problems with the USB. I'd first try creating the USB disk again. When you access your BIOS to start the Lubuntu USB, do you have options to boot EFI or Legacy and do you select EFI? Some machines will give you this option but not all will.
Since 22.04 was just released withing the last week, I would suggest you wait a month or 2 before installing it until some of the bugs are ironed out although I don't know that has anything to do with your problem. |
@yancek, Yes indeed, when I select the ventoy usb key, I see, the options I reported.
No, in the BIOS menu there is no options to boot EFI or Legacy? I agree with you suggest to wait one or two months before installing it until some of the bugs are ironed out, as you said, if there is no other way to fix my problem. |
