Leap 15.1; installation, MariaDB, Akonadi, Kleopatra, RJ45 connection, ... where to start ?

Bonjour, hello all !
Since I moved from Mandrake to Suse ... a long while ago, I stuck to this distro.
I've always used KDE.
I also always have had problems, but it's my fault as I haven't learned Linux by now.
I've re-installed from scratch Leap 15.1 (from 42) with a DVD (re-downloaded, re-burn 3 times) and allwyas have an update problem, the installation can't connect and get repo. (that's a first, as I'm RJ45 connected)
I've managed to install and update my Suse, but ...

Akonadi, Amarok, MariaDB, Kgpg, Kleopatra, (and certainly many others that I haven't try yet) won't work, no matter how many time I re-install them

Does anyone here see a pattern ?

eric.vanh 07-02-2019 05:08 PM

even now that I'm running it, I still can't connect with my RJ45, only with WiFi

Since you don't tell us anything about your hardware, we can't hazard a guess. And your posts are confusing, since you first say that you did install/update, but it's not clear as to if you used wired or wifi...which is it? You don't say how your repos got added either...did you set them up manually, or take the defaults?? You also don't say what problems you've 'always' had, either; without a clear question, there isn't much we can do.

I'm using Tumbleweed, and have had ZERO problems with anything...everything 'just worked' right out of the gate, with all the KDE eye-candy turned on.

Hi TB0ne,
I understand your frustration, I, like many others, sent a message without the basic information :(
I installed 15.1 out of a DVD on 3 laptops, T61, W700 and a dell.
My install are BTRFS, with /home, /tmp /swap on a different disk, and out of the BTRFS subs
all three with legacy boot. All three in 64bits

My W700 is the one I want everything to work on. the others are for fun.
It has /boot out of the btrfs subs (its own partition)

On the Dell I did a zypper dup, everything went fine

On the other two, out of a DVD, when I set the network up, it goes through checking, and then ask me "since you have a network set, do you want to add the online repo" to which I click yes, and then it says it failed at finding repo.
By now I've left the T61 aside to focus on W700
I've installed a minimal set, then uploaded it to KDE, then added all my stuff, using community repo (mainly oss and PackMan)
The connection works on WiFi only, no matter how much I try with the CnxmanagerS

I've had problems with Kontact since my first time, but I still want it to work (I have my previous email files and folders on a separate paqrtition waiting to be re-used).
Because of this I know that I have to have Akonadi working before even trying to start Kontact and fetch my previous email.

Akonadi doesn't start. I've looked that up online and went on working on MariaDB ... which doesn't work either, it fail to start during boot, and when started manually gives me the same error msg which I folled, corrected, then re-started, and failed again.
I've lost my ~/my.cnf ... and reinstalled mariadb, the config file reappears empty, i reinstall maria ...and i decided to post this.

As for Kgpg and Kleopatra, since they don't work either, I was wondering if there is a link, or a pattern ?

I am sorry, but your post is just frustration / venting.

If you could post actual errors then we can help.

Did you use same DVD to install OS on all 3-laptops?

Okay, so what is the exact problem with this Dell?

Does it actually get an IP? What is the output of this command (on the laptop where it fails adding repo: "lspci -vv | grep -i net"

Did you check to see if previous version of this software files are compatible with the new one?

We need exact messages (either from syslog or from when you manually try to start. Otherwise looking at the post there is nothing much we can do.

Did all three of these laptops worked before? If not, have you seen any hardware related errors in dmesg or syslog?

eric.vanh 07-02-2019 07:34 PM

1 DVD downloaded and burnt, then I re-downleded and burnt another DVD, and the dell by zypper dup
All three have the same mariadb-akonadi problem
the dell has kept the RJ45 connection

I will transfer this page to the W700 so I can extract and post logs

eric.vanh 07-02-2019 07:36 PM

No I didn't check if previous version files of Kontact are compatible with new one, but I'm ready to do it manually if needed

First:
Do you check the downloaded ISO with the checksum for errors?

Second:
how do you burn the ISO and which Program do you use?

Third:
I use imagewriter to burn the ISO to an 8GB USB-Stick for Installation.

I'm not proud, but no, I've Dl the checksum and then I tried several DL apps but didn't find the right way to actually check it, so I gave up
I thought: since I've DL it several times I don't think it has errors, but you are right, I missed (or rather skipped) that first elementary part.

K3b for the first one, and win10 internal program for the other

I will try that.
But I need to find a "right" way to check checksum

Sauerland 07-04-2019 11:44 PM

See here:
https://software.opensuse.org/distri...leap?locale=en

Also how to burn.....

Thks, but that's where I DL (3 times) my distro from, same as all the previous.
And burn them just fine, as many other softwares.

But I haven't find a way to check the checksum yet (and never had to for all previous packages)

Maybe I go too fast and miss details

You burn an ISO as ISO, not as other Software!

eric.vanh 07-05-2019 01:15 PM

Now I remember ... they suggest "DownThemAll" as a DL manager, but this extesion is not available, soI choose another one, lighter, but doesn't have the checksum option
Now I've just DL this extension: Files MD5 SHA1 Calculate & Compare, but doesn't go further than MD5, and when I copy-past the check256 I've just DL'd it does't give me any comparison.

What DL manager do you use that allow direct checksum verification ?

Thks !

I know, and most modern software will choose the ISO to be transformed as bootable DVD, unless you specifically choose to burn an ISO as an image (As-is)

I use JDowenloader, this Java programm uses his own verification and after download I use sha256sum......
And burn the ISO as ISO, not unpacking it and burning all files inside.
