changing screen resolution

Does anyone know how to change the screen resolution in SUSE 12.1.
I am using a 16.9 TV/PC Monitor, the window is just to big for the screen, on boot a message appears press space for display options but pressing space does nothing, then a message appears for a couple of seconds 720-P. In previous versions of SUSE it was easy but i can't find a way to do it in 12.1. Adjusting the H & V on the device menu does not give me enough control either. Help please.

Xorg

Depending upon how your monitor and video were detected, you may be able to hit ALT+ and ALT- to cycle through the available resolutions. The better option is to check all of your options and administration menus and see if there is a tool for setting the resolution. The advantage of using the tool is that it may change the session or startup default to your new choice so that you need not mess with it again.
------
Suse has the reputation of containing and supporting an excellent toolset for machine settings. I have not used it myself, but I bet there are results to be found using Google that would lead you to directed solutions.

If it's a X screen (as opposed to a text terminal) then xrandr might do what you want.

Apologize for jumping in your thread. When running 'xrandr' how can you pick the resolution you need?

There are several HOWTOs on the 'net. ArchWiki has one of the best.

Screen resolutioj

Thanks people, the link to the xrand info is great
I will work through it & see if I can change my
resolution to something more suitable

I have tried bash commands - Sax2 & xf86config
but neither work. are there different bash/terminal
commands for SUSE 12 ?
Changing resolution with 11.**** was easy, I think that
12.1 needs some more work.
Rgds.

Suse 12.1 Screen Resolution

Hi People, I had noticed that on booting there was a message on the screen:-
"press space to see all resolutions or wait",
not knowing what that meant I waited & Suse booted. then in
System Settings - Display there was only 2 Resolution Settings, neither suitable for me.

BY chance yesterday I tried hitting "space" on booting, a load of text scrolled down on screen
then after a short pause booting continued, I then found that in System Settings - Display,
there were now 11 resolution options ranging from 1920 x 1080 to 720 x 570,
& I found one that was suitable.

So that has solved the problem, just by chance, Hi Ho.
Perhaps there is a lesson here, when in doubt fiddle.

Has a full manual for 12.1 been released yet ?

Any way, thanks for the help.
