boot problem and kbd lockup
 

Hi, I'm new to unix and the gnu\linux. In any case I've heard a lot of recommendations on slackware, and people mentioned that it really isn't a bad distro even for the unsighted people :P. In any case I've had no problems installing slackware, though at bootup I think LILO is crashing as I see strange outputs:

'L 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99'...

after a few lines it just stops and theres not much I can do about it :P. Would switching to MBR help, and/or switching to a text-based version of LILO?

the second problem I have is my keyboard/mouse lockup. even when I try to boot slackware with the bootdisk, which I was prompted to make, in the CLI when I'm prompted to login on darkstar my keyboard\mouse just locks up. I have a MS IntelliMouse USB and PS/2 connected over the USB directly, and my IBM keyboard is PS/2. I've been checking the status of my keyboard during the bootup process [what I can describe as a installation\detection of many devices :P] I've seen many USB drivers being loaded, and have been checking the status of my keyboard and it has been responding all up until the darkstar login prompt, and before that there was a line something about a PS/2 mouse, I don't remmember it exactly but I'm pretty sure it wasn't an error. Any help? Thanks!

Firstly, if you can make your mouse a PS/2 do that. (You usually get a connector with MS mouses that will let you use it as PS/2) The mouse probably has problems because the wrong USB drivewr is being loaded... I would just avoid this entirely by using the method I just described.

And it certainly wouldn't hurt to use LILO as your MBR boot menu. I do.
But I am not sure this is the reason you are getting these errors. Are you stil able to boot after it prints that crap? OR do you have to use a boot disk? What did you mean a graphical or text vers of LILO? Did you install LILO lateron as graphical.. I didn't know Slackware came with a default Graphical LILO... mine has always came up text unless I manually went and 'changed' it. hmmm? Explain a little better on these things and let me know if the PS/2 mouse 'fixes' your lockup problem.

ok...when mine gets to the point where it says "Darkstar loggin" my key board kets all weird and i can't use it to loggin or anything. the thing just locks up. any help would be great.

Again I need more info. 'Gets all weird' doesn't really convey much to me. Locking up does, but my quesion to you is also-do you use a PS/2 or USB mouse or any USB devices?

i use a ps2 keyboard and a usb mouse and they both lock up. if you need anymore info just let me know.

found out the problem but now the usb mouse wont work cause i had to remove the gpm package...is there anyway to inable the usb ports manualy?

Probably the easiest fix for you would simply be to use a ps/2 adapter for your mouse and use the mouse ps/2 style. This should fix the problem and allow you to use gpm. Otherwise you will probably need to re-config and recompile your kernel (I think the 'human interfaces/devices' is the branch of USB that deals with USB mice) I could be wrong though. I always make sure I used a ps/2 mouse....

PS: I got a couple extra adapters for USB mice<>PS/2 for like 2.99 on sale the other day. They don't cost much, and usually microsoft (if that is who you got your mouse from gives you one with the mouse you buy).
