opera web browser segmentation fault

Hi all,

Been trying to install/ipgrade the opera browser via sbopkg, but once installed cannot open as there is a segmentation fault reported - does anyone know about this, is it just happening to myself?

cheers

A segmentation fault is a memory fault. On boot-up, there is a scan to detect how much memory you have and what adresses the memory blocks start & finish. Segmentation faults used to be about addressing memory that isn't there. Nowadays it's basically any memory fault.

If you can run ordinary software, relax. It's Opera's fault. Do a memory test if you're worried but don't stress yourself. Back off the update, and keep using the older version and report it.

Hi one and all,

I worked aroung the problem by removing *.la files in /usr/lib64. then reinstalled opera, only to find another fault, which as it turns out is related to opera using chromium 92 while its cosecs are for 92; so I downgraded opera using the slackbuilds for slackware 142 and now it works - thanks for the interest and ideas.
