Congratulations to all of the winners.

A few comments. The Database poll was once again the closest race (decided by a single vote last year) while the web server poll remained the most lopsided. It's clear in most polls that there is not a single app that dominates, which I think is a major strength opensource offers. Thanks again to everyone that voted.

wow, only thing i DISagree on is the desktop environment.

although, i'm curious to see how Firebird (RDBMS) does next year

Are you talking about the best type "Live Eval" type cd? Cause well, just about all Distro's come on CD.

If so, I think that would be a good category next year, got my vote.

You know KNOPPIX, Morphix, SystemRescueCD all the Distros with no install needed ready to use and ready to backup your system

cool. i agree on most of these but I dissagree on stupid KDE. The only reason, I suspect, that it 'wins' these kinds of polls is it's preinstalled as the default DE on most distributions so new users start out using the damn thing and then never know better

Mepis is the best distro for me. I challenge evryone to take a look at it and decide for yourselves. I've tried many and was almost married to SuSE for several years but Mepis came along....

Funny GNOME seems to be the default, not KDE, its first on the list for mine. Slackware's scripts start gdm first be default, not kdm.

I use KDE quite a bit, then some other lighter ones that take less resources when needed. I love KDE sound effects though, makes me feel at home.

I feel that a poll for best bootable distro should be a good option. Also I feel there should be a voting on the best Linux magazine.
