I was wondering if any one has to deal with a annoying but other wise harmless bug in kde 3.2. Because the bug is hard to describe, I posted some screenshots. Here is the annying bug in action. As you can see, the a peace of the menu to the right is missing. This is how it should look. Sometimes the bug appears and after some clicking on the menu it goes away again. Does any one know how to remedy this. Should I write a bug report to the kde team?
I'm running LFS 5.0 and I have build kde from source.
If you'll notice, the menu expands to fit the text...
so when gimp is on the recent programs list, the full text is shown, so it needs to be wider.
when gimp is not on the list, the widest text looks like mplayer is the next longest.
methinks there's also a bug. sometimes, I don't even see the arrows to the right - that's too much shrinking. It isn't just that the menu width adjusts itself, but sometimes a part on the right side gets cut off. You can see it in schatoor's screen shots: the bad version has the right edge cut off.
I realize this a somewhat old thread, but I found a workaround for this... dunno if the original poster is checking here anymore, but here goes...
Use the menu editing too and add spaces to the one of the categories off the base of the K menu... save and then check to see if the arrows are back, if not... add more spaces, save again and check and so on...
Hopefully this helps someone out... its possible that the bug is fixed already... I'm using KDE 3.2.0..
seems like the bug is back in 3.2.2. Wasn't there in 3.2.1...
another way to get around is to disable the side image (the thing that says kde3.2) in the panel menu, and then go to the menu editor and saving the settings to refresh things.
Thanks for that one
I just installed 3.2.2 on 9.1 slackware and encountered the same probelms
anyway i just made one of the names wideer as you suggest
we'll definately call it a 'feature'!!
thanks
PS - Any ideas on the sound sever? i get an error messge everytime is start KDE.
' device /dev/dsp can't be opened (no such device)
I thought the sounds was thru alsa - anyway I haven't tried to fi it yet
any ideas off the bat so to speak?
go to kde control server and disable the arts soundserver from starting up or change the default sound architecture to alsa (I think it's set to auto by default). That should get rid of the pop-up message.
