Hey all,
A hard drive is representing hd(0,0) in my grub legacy configuration file , so if i have two disks (one SATA, one PATA ) with partitions naming /dev/hda0 and /dev/sda1 which one of them representing for hd(0,0) ?

There should be no /dev/hda0, only 1 and up.

It can vary according to several factors, including disk driver module load order, kernel construction, and BIOS settings.

If you know a unique name of any file on either disk, you can use Grub's find command to tell you where it found it, and if it's a plain text file, Grub's cat can show you its content.

What linux distribution / version are you running? I don't remember the exact kernel version but 2.6 with libata would create SCSI device IDs i.e. /dev/sdxy for all types of drives i.e. PATA, SATA, USB, SCSI etc.

Whatever you set as the boot drive in the BIOS would be hd0 with hd(0,0) being the first partition on the boot drive. Although you can also map the drives if necessary.
