Updating VMWare After Updating CentOS

I'm the free VMWare Server under CentOS 5.0 and I understand that if I update the system (I'm assuming they mean the kernel rather apps) that I have to re-run the VMWare config.pl routine.

Am I correct in thinking that that will not obliterate the guest OS and all of its apps?

Just want to be sure.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yes, when you run that, it will attempt to make the modules for the new kernel. It will than ask you if you want to keep you network setup. Simply say yes (which is the default).

I think simply accepting the defaults will keep everything the same. Just read all the questions carefully and respond accordingly.

Of course, you need to be running the new kernel before you can build the new modules so there will be a bit of downtime.

Hope this helps
